Aortic Valve Replacement
Aortic Valve Replacement
- Open Heart Surgery,
- TAVI Method,
- Underarm Closed Heart Surgery
- It is not possible to attach a metal cover.
- Due to the nature of the biological valve, it will have to be replaced again within a few years.
- Blood leaking from the edge of the lid may occur.
- Cardiac surgery may be needed if the valve is not fully seated.
- Because the biological valve is placed on the old valve unlike Closed Heart Surgery, this method is more likely to cause clot to the brain in case the old valve ruptures.
- Patients are forced to use blood thinners during their lives.
- No further valve replacement is required, the biological cover may need to be replaced within 10 to 15 years.
When the Aortic valve either leaks blood from the opening or is partially obstructed, Aortic valve replacement must be done. This surgery replaces patient's problematic Aortic valve with an artificial heart valve. It can be done with;
TAVI Method
The TAVI Method is a newly developed method. In this method, Lung and Heart machine is not needed. The groin area is processed and the Aortic cover is replaced with a biological cover. With TAVI Method;
Underarm Closed Heart Surgery
Underarm Closed Heart Surgery is preferred because of the small incision (3 - 4cm). Operation is performed with lung and heart machine. The heart valve is completely removed and the biological or metal valve is attached. The operation time is short (may vary from 1.5 to 2 hours).
If the metal cover is installed;
